Bellababy09 asked:

Ive been looking long and hard for furniture that i can use to store vinyl records.
I would like to give my dad for fathers day something to do with his passion for vinyl records and music.
something maybe a little bit more modern.
he has them all in this brown dresser looking thing that is so 70-80′s looking

he has more then 1000 records which a problem also i don’t plan on spending thousands of dollars but maybe get some websites where i can buy furniture anything to do with vinyl record keeping.

Well, you do not need anything special for keeping records. All they need is to be stood up, vertically. So, I suggest “cube” shelves. These are stacking boxes. Get the ones with dividers and stack ‘em up. The dividers should be about 4″-6″ apart to limit how far the albums can lay over. Places like Ikea, Cost Plus and others have relatively cheap units. I have a wall unit with adjustable shelves and dividers that I had custom made by a cabinet maker which cost me $400 plus some elbow grease because I did the wood finish myself. I just lacked the carpentry skills to do the fabrication.

Thats a lot of albums. Shelving or cabinetry to store that many rocords could run into a great deal of money. I am a cabinet maker ,so I know that rowlfe got a great deal on his costom made shelves. Not knowing what your budget is like, I would suggest getting him some frames for some of his favorites. K-Mart , Wal-Mart, Target or any number of craft stores should have them or at least be able to point you in the right direction. I have some classic albums from the 60s, 70s, and 80s that I plan on making frames for. good luck to you.

One used bookcase from a second hand store I bought one for about 20 dollars each book case should contain a lot then stack the albums upright. You can modernize your books shelf with paint or decorate it as you please..

Cube storage is probably the way to go. The problem with finding storage for LPs is they’re so darned heavy. Many shelf units aren’t strong enough for any quantity, and the shelves are rarely deep enough. Cubes made of wood can certainly be bought but will add up to quite a bit of money. The old milk crates were the best, really. I just checked at a place called The Container Store and they have an imitation milk crate called the Supreme Crate which is meant for storing LPs. I tried some of my LPs in one of my old milk crates and it took 75 of them. If the crates are black they could look ‘industrial’. That’s probably your best bet for price if not for style, but who knows? Maybe having his LPs stored in milk crates will remind your dad of his younger days. They do sell, check on the web, real milk crates as they are used in the film industry for storing things but it looks like they pretty much only sell the bigger ones. Where I live, the local milk distributor was able to tell me where they got their milk crates. I bought some there, and they had a few different colours.
